How to Play Pick 3

Friday's Pick 3 jackpot is  $500!
Play Pick 3

It’s not as simple as it first looks! There are lots of ways to play Pick 3 – we’ll cover them all here, to help you find your favorite style.

Buying Tickets

Pick 3 tickets can be purchased at any authorized Florida Lottery retailer. After asking for a ticket, you need to choose three numbers from 0 to 9 – you can use the same number multiple times. If you’d prefer the machine to pick for you, simply mark the ‘QP’ box on your playslip for some Quick Picks.

Most play types have a wager amount of either 50 cents or $1. However, the Straight/Box plays cost a fixed $1 and the Combo plays can range from $1.50 to $6.

Buying Tickets

Straight

To win, match the numbers exactly in drawn order.

Box

To win, match the numbers in any order.

Straight/Box

Your numbers can win either way. If you get a straight, you also win the box prize!

Combo

Pick three numbers, then every possible combination is entered as a separate Straight. This is different to Straight/Box, as it costs more and returns greater prizes.

Front Pair

Match the first two numbers in exact order. For this play, you only need to pick numbers for the first two columns on your playslip.

Back Pair

Match the last two numbers in exact order. For this play, you only need to pick numbers for the last two columns on the playslip.

3-Way and 6-Way Plays

A lot depends on whether you play a 3-Way combination or a 6-Way. With a 3-Way, two of your digits are identical, for example 112, so there are just ‘three ways’ they can be ordered: 112, 121 and 211.

A 6-Way combination has three different digits. For example, 123 can be ordered: 123, 132, 213, 231, 321, 312 = 6 ways! 6-Way plays cost more, as you’re effectively buying more winning combinations. You can find out more on the Odds and Prizes page.

The Fireball Option

The Fireball add-on doubles the cost of your play, but significantly increases your chances of winning! After the main Pick 3 draw takes place, a Fireball number from 0-9 is drawn. This number can be used to replace any Pick 3 number to get you a winning combo. You can win on the base game, with the Fireball add-on, or in both games! If you opt for the Fireball, it is applied to all panels on your playslip.

Go to the Odds and Prizes page to see all the different payouts you can win, with and without the Fireball option.

When to check the results

If you want to enter the Midday draw which takes place at 1:30 PM ET, tick MID on your ticket. For the Evening draw which is held at 9:45 PM ET, tick EVE. If you tick BOTH on your playslip, you will receive a separate ticket for each draw.

The sales cut-off time is 11 minutes before each draw. This means you must purchase your tickets before 1:19 PM ET for the Midday draw, and 9:34 PM ET for the Evening draw. The Pick 3 results are published on our Numbers page after each drawing.
