Powerball Overview
Powerball was introduced in the Sunshine State in 2009 and the first draw took place on January 4th. The sales on the first day reached an impressive $1.5 million. The grand prize was first won in Florida on October 3 by a single player whose ticket matched all five main numbers plus the Powerball. The jackpot was worth $189 million, and it was claimed 12 days after the draw by W. Steemers Trust of Orlando. This big win generated approximately $21.7 million towards education.
The Florida Lottery annually contributes more than $1 billion to education annually, and a big part of this amount comes from Powerball as it’s one of the most popular games in the state.
