Powerball Odds and Prizes
Powerball offers nine different prize tiers, depending on how many winning numbers you match. The least you can win is $4, which you can get by matching just the red Powerball. Matching all six main numbers could potentially land you billions of dollars, as there is no jackpot cap and no rollover limit. The starting jackpot is $20 million.
In case multiple lucky participants win the jackpot, the amount will be equally divided by the number of winning tickets. The prizes in the lower categories have fixed amounts.

Jackpot Payment Options
There are two payment plans for Powerball jackpots. While they are very different, each one has its own advantages. These are:
- The Cash Option
- Annuity
The annuity option means that you will get your prize in 30 installments. With the cash option, you will receive your prize as a one-time payment of the advertised cash value of the jackpot. Once a payout option has been selected, it can’t be changed. If an option hasn’t been selected within 60 days, the cash option will become unavailable. If more than one winner matches all the numbers, the jackpot will be equally divided among all the winning entries.
Remember, the advertised Powerball jackpot is never guaranteed and it is just an estimate. The final amount is dependent upon the ticket sales and interest rates for long-term investments. Furthermore, your winnings will be taxed depending on your circumstances – visit the Taxes Page for more info.
