How to Play Pick 5

Pick 5 tickets are available to purchase at every authorized lottery retailer in Florida. One of the cool things about this game is the number of different ways you can play, but that does mean it takes a bit longer to explain!

Choose your numbers

If you want to enter, ask for a Pick 5 playslip. Your playslip will have five panels, labeled A-E, and every panel represents one play.

Each panel contains 5 columns, with each column containing the numbers 0-9. Check one number in each column – those are your lottery numbers, and they’ll be printed on your Pick 5 ticket. If you’re not too sure which digits you want to choose, check the Quick Pick box, and the terminal will assign you random numbers. If you’re playing multiple panels, Quick Pick can be used alongside manual picks.

Choosing a play type

Then, you must select the play type: Straight, Box, or Straight/Box. A Straight play means your numbers must be drawn in that exact order, while a Box wager means you win if your five selected digits appear in any order. 'Both' means you can win both ways!

Choosing a play type

Box and Straight/Box plays are further broken down into different categories based on the combination of numbers played. Here's a quick explanation, but we go into more detail on the Odds and Prizes page.

  • 5-Way: Four identical numbers and one that is different, for example 11112
  • 10-Way: Three identical numbers and one pair, for example 33344
  • 20-Way: Three identical numbers and two that are unique, for example 55567
  • 30-Way: Two sets of pairs and one unique number, such as 88990
  • 60-Way: One pair and three unique numbers, for example 12344
  • 120-Way: Five different numbers, such as 12345

The Fireball Option

Fireball is a feature that can be added to your regular Pick 5 entry. With Fireball, the cost of your play is doubled and will be applied to all panels. After the main Pick 5 draws take place, a Fireball number between 0 and 9 is also drawn. This number can be used to replace any Pick 5 numbers so that you can create a winning combination.

With Fireball, you could win a prize on Pick 5, Fireball, or both! The available wager amounts are 50¢ or $1 for Straight and Box plays. If you go for a Straight/Box, it always costs $1.

Advance Play

The Advance Play option allows you to enter Pick 5 for up to 14 consecutive days. This saves time when choosing numbers at the checkout, since all the games will have the same numbers as this one!

When to check the results

Our Numbers page will have the Pick 5 winning numbers for both daily draws, shortly after they take place. The Midday draw is held at 1:30 PM ET and the Evening draw at 9:45 PM ET. Make sure you pick the draw time you want to enter:

  • Tick MID for the Midday draw,
  • Tick EVE for the Evening draw,
  • Tick BOTH if you want to play in both draws.

In case you forget to pick a time, your ticket will be printed for the next available draw. Ticket sales close at 1:18 PM ET for the Midday draw and 9:33 PM ET for the Evening draw.
